Serving Those Who Serve and Protect

 

Originally established as Chicago Patrolmen’s Federal Credit Union in 1938, the Credit Union was very much a “blue shirts” organization, with membership open only to Police Officers “on the beat” and their immediate family members. By 1949, the Credit Union had grown to over $1 million in assets.

During this period, the Credit Union’s Board of Directors implemented a “once a member, always a member” policy. This membership policy permits members to maintain their Credit Union accounts when they move up in the ranks or retire. Both of these policies continue to be critical to the growth and success of the Credit Union. 

In 2025, the Credit Union changed its name to National Police Federal Credit Union. The formation of National Police Federal Credit Union is more than a name change – it represents a strengthened strategic commitment to unity, focus, and unwavering service to those who serve our communities. The brand realignment marks the beginning of a renewed mission to deliver exceptional financial services, tailored support, and a lasting partnership that police officers, firefighters, and their families can rely on for years to come.

Our mission is to serve the financial needs of First Responders and their families in order to help them realize their life’s goals. We will fulfill our mission by providing our members with competitive financial products and services which facilitate borrowing, promote thrift and encourage wise money management.








Fraternal Order of Police Member Eligibility

 
In 2014, the Credit Union was approved to serve all Fraternal Order of Police members throughout the United States and we created a marketing division to help us do so.  The Credit Union is tailored to the needs of Law Enforcement and builds upon our long-standing standard of excellence.
 
Every day, we strive to fulfill our mission by providing members with competitive financial products and services that facilitate borrowing, promote thrift, and encourage wise money management. Since our inception, we have expanded our field of membership to include eligible Police Departments and Associations throughout the country.
