Ohio

By John Aretos of Police Mortgage

Ohio is a great market for Police Mortgage especially for police home loans. I’ve been to Cincinnati a few times. I like Cincinnati. It’s a cool town. I’ve been to all of the major cities in Ohio: Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati. I’m sorry, Cincinnati. I tend to like Cleveland better.

According to the Columbus Dispatch in April 12, 2024, Ohio is one of the most affordable places in the country to own a home, coming in at number two on Bankrate’s analysis. Depending upon where you want to live in the state, a medium-priced home should be between $200,000 and $250,000.

I personally like Ohio because it always seems to offer the cheapest gasoline prices. I found that out over the course of many drives to and from Pennsylvania for one of my kids that went to college out there.

Ohio seems to offer a very reasonable cost of living. I think part of that is just the way that the state is run at a state level from a government standpoint. I don’t think there’s a huge deficit and that it is a fiscally-sound state.

It’s middle America and you don’t have one big city that’s driving everything like you do in Police Mortgage’s home state of Illinois. It’s a state that industry wants to do business in.

Our parent company, National Police Federal Credit Union, has a branch in Akron.  This is through the acquisition of Akron Fire and Police Credit Union. We have had the privilege to serve members in that area through a number of transactions.

Home prices are generally lower in Ohio than what we see near our headquarters in Chicago. So, it’s a reasonable and manageable place to live. Referring back to one of our recent topics on creating generational wealth, you’re probably going to see some folks who live in Ohio but build enough wealth to have a second property in Florida.

Police Mortgage and the National Police FCU are proud to serve the first responders in Ohio. We plan on being there for many years to come.
